Mt Laurel, NJ Tips

Ross Concrete

With over thirty years experience in the field, we know what causes cracking and other surface damage.

These tips are designed to help you avoid problems:

  • Water can be a big problem for concrete. Poor drainage and clay filled base lead to movement and cracking. Proper water run-off is key to ensuring concrete stays in good condition.
  • Concrete cracks are caused primarily by water getting under the concrete and poor ground conditions. Rain spouts are often the source of drainage problems. Make sure water flows away from the concrete surface - not alongside or underneath it.
  • Water is a bigger problem in winter because of freeze-thaw cycles lifting and causing excessive movement. In addition, ice melting chemicals can damage concrete surfaces if not careful. Concentrated amounts that refreeze on concrete after melting can cause damage. Ice melting materials refreeze at 20 degrees. Sweep or shovel excess ice melting materials off concrete to avoid problems.
